Candy / Sweat Feature
Candy Digital is a next-generation NFT marketplace that brings the multi-billion dollar sports collectibles industry on-chain. We engineered core marketplace features for their American football vertical — including live drop mechanics, real-time bidding, NFT detail pages, and a collector-grade browsing experience. When fans bid on a limited-edition DJ Uiagalelei card or snag a live drop of their favourite quarterback, the infrastructure we built is what makes it happen.

The Challenge
Sports collectibles have been physical for over a century — trading cards, signed memorabilia, game-worn jerseys. Candy's mission was to bring that same emotional ownership experience to digital assets, but the technical requirements were staggering. The platform needed to handle flash-sale mechanics where thousands of collectors compete for limited-edition drops in real time. Each NFT required rich media (animated cards, video highlights, holographic effects), detailed player metadata, edition tracking, and provenance history. The bidding system needed to be fair, transparent, and capable of processing hundreds of concurrent bids without race conditions. And the entire experience had to feel premium — collectors paying $250+ for a digital card expect a luxury e-commerce experience, not a clunky crypto interface. The challenge was building marketplace infrastructure that could handle the intensity of a Supreme drop with the trust requirements of a Christie's auction.
Our Solution
We worked as an embedded engineering team within Candy's product organization, owning the development of several key marketplace features. Live Drop System: We built the real-time drop mechanics that power limited-edition releases. When a new collection goes live, thousands of collectors hit the platform simultaneously. Our system handles queue management, fair access distribution, countdown synchronization, and instant purchase confirmation — all while maintaining sub-second response times under peak load. NFT Detail & Bidding Pages: We engineered the collector experience for individual NFTs — featuring high-fidelity animated card previews, player stats and biography, edition numbering (e.g., '1 of 1920'), rarity classification, price history, and a real-time bidding interface with the pink 'BID' CTA that became iconic in the Candy UI. The detail pages also display provenance chain and ownership history. Marketplace Browse & Discovery: We built the core browsing experience with filterable grids, category navigation (Sports, Art, Entertainment), price sorting, and upcoming drop schedules — allowing collectors to discover drops before they go live and plan their purchases. The dark-themed UI with neon accents was designed to evoke the premium feel of high-end collectible culture while keeping the interface fast and accessible to mainstream sports fans.
